A number of car manufacturers are accused of diesel emissions fraud after allegedly fitting defeat devices in their vehicles to cheat emissions tests and laws between 2007 and 2020

Hundreds of thousands of diesel cars and vans are involved in the ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, and it is believed that they were producing emissions levels that significantly exceeded laws put in place to protect the public and the environment.

Millions of vehicle owners, previous vehicle owners and people who lease vehicles could claim against car companies in relation to a “cheat device” fitted to their vehicles similar to that of Volkswagen.

Affected vehicles include VW, Mercedes, Renault and Nissan with more being investigated.

In the case of Mercedes, it is claimed that each illegal vehicle was producing over 40 times the EU and UK emissions limit. 

If you ever owned or leased a Mercedes diesel car or van first registered between 2007 and 2018, then you may be able to claim.

Nissan Qashqais fitted with a 1.2 litre engine. Customers who owned more than one vehicle that meets the description above can make multiple claims. Other vehicle makers are also being investigated. Which cars are affected?

The specific numbers of vehicles in the UK affected:
1,189,906 million in the UK

These include:

  • Volkswagen Passenger Cars – 508,276
  • Audi – 393,450
  • SEAT – 76,773
  • ŠKODA – 131,569
  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – 79,838 
  • Years affected: Anyone with an EA189 engine, which means 1.2 litre, 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre diesel 
  • engines (TDIs – Turbo Diesel Injection).
The affected vehicles were sold between 2009 and 2014 – Those with Euro 5 emission standards 
(September 2009 – September 2014).
Confirmation of Audi car models affected in UK:
Audi: A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3, Q5 and A5

What can you claim for?

  • Additional fuel consumption
  • Potential additional vehicle tax

Who is Eligible?
